During this whistle-stop tour you will have a chance to take several short hikes to the Mud Volcano, Artist Point and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Grand Prismatic Hot Spring, the largest hot spring in the world, and the world famous Old Faithful Geyser before returning to Jackson, Wyoming. Wildlife encountered may include black bears, grizzly bears, bison, coyotes, eagles, osprey, pronghorn, and wolves.

Trip Itinerary

If you only have one day to visit Yellowstone, this 1-day, 200+ mile tour Yellowstone’s Lower Loop is the tour to take.

After departing Jackson we’ll drive north through Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller Jr. Memorial Parkway while transiting to Yellowstone, making several stops along the way to take photos, admire wildlife, and take advantage of the Flagg Ranch restrooms. Using bathrooms with running water is simply how we roll.

Guests at Grand Prismatic | Stace Noland

We’ll then enter Yellowstone through the South Entrance just a little before 9 AM. From there, we’ll continue driving north to West Thumb Geyser Basin then to the famous Lake Yellowstone Hotel for short coffee break. From the Hotel, we’ll continue traveling north to admire the Mud Volcano, Hayden Valley, and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, before taking a lunch break at Canyon Village Visitor Center.

Continuing west from Canyon, we’ll explore Fountain Paint Pots, Excelsior Geyser Crater, and Grand Prismatic Hot Spring.

We’ll cap the day with a visit to the Old Faithful Inn (the largest log cabin-style structure on Earth) and see Old Faithful Geyser gush in all her glory. The drive from Old Faith back to Jackson is approximately 2.5-3 hours.

Departure Point – Your hotel in Teton Village, the town of Jackson, or a mutually agreeable location.

Departure Time – Tours leave Jackson at 7:00 AM, though pick-up at your hotel may be 30- to 60-minutes earlier.

Return Time – All guests will be returned to their original departure point at approximately 8 PM, contingent upon weather, restroom breaks, road construction, or wildlife induced traffic jams.

After we pick you up from your hotel, we’ll make a quick stop at our favorite deli to grab breakfast, lunch, and beverages.  From there, we’ll drive through Grand Teton Nation Park as we make our way up to Yellowstone. We’ll make several stops along the way to admire wildlife and take in scenic vistas. Before entering the Park, we’ll stop to let you stretch your legs, buy a few goodies, and hit the restroom at Jackson Lake Lodge or Flagg Ranch. As you enter the Park, you’ll probably want to put your phone in airplane mode since cell service in the park is sporadic, at best. If all goes according to plan, we’ll enter the Park through the South Entrance at approximately 9 AM.

It can be cool in the morning in Yellowstone, if not downright cold. Daytime temperatures can soar to a high of 80F/26C. Nights are usually cool, and temperatures can drop below freezing at higher elevations. Thunderstorms are common in the afternoons. It can snow during any month of the year, so be prepared to dress in layers.

A good sense of adventure and awe, a camera (with charger or extra batteries), sunglasses, sun hat, sunscreen, appropriate clothing (long pants, both short- and long-sleeved shirts (no cotton), and a waterproof and windproof outer layer), binoculars, athletic walking shoes, any prescription medications, and a day pack with enough capacity to carry all the above. We also encourage our guest to bring reusable water bottles to help reduce our environmental impact in the Park.

Hotel pick-up is offered for this tour. Note: if you are booking within 24 hours of the tour departure time, we will send you complete contact information (phone number, email address, etc.) for our guides to reconfirm pick-up arrangements with you.
