Sunset at Mt. Moran | Nathaniel Foong

One of the best times to take photographs of the Teton Mountain Range is during the golden hour (30-minutes before and 30-minutes after sunset). Golden hour photography can result in almost magical photos.

You can emphasize textures, long shadows, make things glow, and create fun silhouettes. It's also a good time to take pictures of wildlife as they forage for an early evening snack. Let’s chase the sunset together!

Trip Itinerary

After we pick you up from your hotel, we’ll make a quick stop at our favorite deli to grab dinner and beverages before driving into the Park via the Moose Entrance.

Upon entry, we'll make a couple of quick visits to String Lake and Jenny Lake to appreciate their serene beauty before taking a short scenic drive to the summit of Signal Moutain to check out the amazing view of the Jackson Valley and Snake River below.

Time permitting, we'll then visit the historic Signal Mountain and Jackson Lake Lodges, as well as Coulter Bay Marina and Jackson Lake, named after David Edwards Jackson, one of the first known European Americans to spend a winter in the region in the early 1800s.

After leaving Jackson Lake, we’ll venture down several primitive roads in search of moose, grizzly and black bears, and sandhill cranes - from inside the vehicle or at a distance (a minimum of 100-yards), of course.

Sunset in the Tetons | Owen Rupp

As the sun begins to set, but before we start the return journey to Jackson, we'll stop at Oxbow Bend, a slow-moving tributary of the Snake River to capture a few epic photos of Mt. Moran and her reflection in the slow-moving arm of the Snake River.

Our final stop will be at Mormon Row, a bucolic scene first settled by Mormon homesteaders in the late 1800s for its fertile soil, shelter from the winds, and close access to the Gros Ventre River. Here you will have the opportunity to take some amazing photos of the Tetons as the sunset sets to the west. This tour will take approximately 4.5 to 5-hours to complete.

Departure Point – Your hotel in Teton Village, the town of Jackson, or a mutually agreeable location.

Departure Time – Tours leave Jackson at 3:00 PM, though pick-up at your hotel maybe 30- to 60-minutes earlier.

Return Time – All guests will be returned to their original departure point at approximately 8:30 PM, subject to weather, road construction, or wildlife induced traffic jams.

This tour is similar to our Grand Teton Sunrise Tour, but done in reverse (clockwise). See our sunrise tour for additional details. During the spring mosquitos can be a nuisance in the early evening, so bring your bug spray and wear pants and long sleeves.

It can be cool in the morning in the Tetons, if not downright cold. Daytime temperatures can soar to a high of 80F/26C. Nights are usually cool, and temperatures can drop below freezing at higher elevations. Thunderstorms are common in the afternoons. It can snow during any month of the year, so be prepared to dress in layers.

A good sense of adventure and awe, a camera (with charger or extra batteries), sunglasses, sun hat, sunscreen, appropriate clothing (long pants, both short- and long-sleeved shirts (no cotton), and a waterproof and windproof outer layer), athletic walking shoes, any prescription medications, and a day pack with enough capacity to carry all the above. We also encourage our guest to bring reusable water bottles to help reduce our environmental impact in the Park.

Hotel pick-up is offered for this tour. Note: if you are booking within 24 hours of the tour departure time, we will send you complete contact information (phone number, email address, etc.) for our guides to reconfirm pick-up arrangements with you.
