GRAND TETON SUNRISE TOUR
Sunrise at Moose Flats | Kevin Noble
Sunrise is one of the best times to see wildlife and photograph scenic vistas in the Tetons. We'll spend the morning quickstepping to find moose, bison, bears, and elk as they forage for breakfast, all while the rising sun washes the Tetons in early morning alpenglow.
After we pick you up, we’ll make a quick stop at our favorite deli to grab breakfast and warm beverages. From there, we’ll introduce you to the 24,000+ acre National Elk Refuge via driveby before entering Grand Teton Nation Park.
First stop in the Park will be Mormon Row, a bucolic scene first settled by Mormon homesteaders in the late 1800s for its fertile soil, shelter from the winds, and close access to the Gros Ventre River. Next, we’ll drive down several primitive roads in search of moose, grizzly, and black bears. From inside the vehicle or at a distance (a minimum of 100-yards), of course.
We'll also make an unforgettable stop at Oxbow Bend, a slow-moving tributary of the Snake River to capture a few Instagram quality photos of Mt. Moran and its reflection in the lazy arm of the Snake River.
Next, we'll visit Coulter Bay Marina, the historic Jackson Lake, and Signal Mountain Lodges, in addition to taking a short drive to the summit of Signal Mountain - classic black bear and elk country, especially in the spring and early fall - to scope out the amazing view of the Snake River and Jackson Valley.
After a couple of quick visits to String Lake and Jenny Lake, you'll wonder where all the time has gone on this whirlwind (4.5 to 5 hour) tour of the Tetons, or what the locals call The Teets.
Departure Point – Your hotel in Teton Village, the town of Jackson, or a mutually agreeable location.
Departure Time – Tours leave Jackson at 7:00 AM, though pick-up at your hotel maybe 30- to 60-minutes earlier.
Return Time – All guests will be returned to their original departure point at approximately 12:30 PM, subject to weather, road construction, or wildlife induced traffic jams.
We oftentimes see a lot of wildlife on these sunrise tours, so be sure to keep your camera at the ready at all times. When we do see wildlife we'll keep a safe distance from them. All of our guides carry bear spray and know how to use it.
Our guides also serve as your personal photographer, so please don't hesitate to ask them to take a photo of you, your friends, or family with the Tetons in the background.
It can be cool in the morning in the Tetons, if not downright cold. Daytime temperatures can soar to a high of 80F/26C. Nights are usually cool, and temperatures can drop below freezing at higher elevations. Thunderstorms are common in the afternoons. It can snow during any month of the year, so be prepared to dress in layers.
A good sense of adventure and awe, a camera (with charger or extra batteries), sun glasses, sun hat, sunscreen, appropriate clothing (long pants, both short- and long-sleeved shirts (no cotton), and a waterproof and windproof outer layer), athletic walking shoes, any prescription medications, and a day pack with enough capacity to carry all the above. We also encourage our guest to bring reusable water bottles to help reduce our environmental impact in the Park.
Hotel pick-up is offered for this tour. Note: if you are booking within 24 hours of the tour departure time, we will send you complete contact information (phone number, email address, etc.) for our guides to reconfirm pick-up arrangements with you.
